cyber bullying and cyber etiquette

cyber bullying

Cyber bullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets. Cyber bullying can occur through SMS, Text, and apps, or online in social media, forums, or gaming where people can view, participate in, or share content.

Examples of cyber bullying

name-calling....

• threats....

• mean comments about someone’s looks etc.

Effects

The effects of cyber bullying also include mental health issues, increased stress and anxiety, depression, acting out violently, and low self-esteem. Cyber bullying can also result in long-lasting emotional effects, even if the bullying has stopped.

 • There can be physical effects as well. Intense feelings of stress and anxiety due to Cyber bullying can result in physical issues such as lack of sleep ( insomnia) and harmful eating patterns.

Overcoming depression

Don't withdraw from life. Socialising can improve your mood. Keeping in touch with friends and family means you have someone to talk to when u feel low.

Take up some form of exercise. There's evidence that exercise can help lift your mood. If you haven't exercised for a while, start gently by walking for 20 minutes every day.

• Don't avoid the things you find difficult. When people feel low or anxious, they sometimes avoid talking to other people. Some people can lose their confidence in going out, driving or travelling. If this starts to happen, facing up to these situations will help them become easier.

Preventing cyber bullying

Investigate what measures you can take to keep content private on the websites you use. It’s important to check these privacy settings frequently, because sites sometimes change their policies.

• Never forget that the internet is public. What you put out there can never be erased. If you wouldn’t say something in a room full of strangers, don’t say it via internet.

• Don’t reveal identifying details about yourself—address, phone number, school, credit card number, etc.—online. Passwords exist for a reason; sharing them with friends is like passing out copies of your house key to friends and strangers alike
